What is a domain name?

A domain name is the address of your website. For example, imagine the internet as a map full of addresses, streets, and houses. The website is your house. In order to anyone to find a way to your house, you’ll need an address. This address is your domain name.

Every website has an IP address (eg: 71.287.131.106). It is difficult for people to remember the IP address every time they want to visit your website. Therefore, the domain name is like a simple, easy-to-remember name that anyone can enter it to visit your website.

How domain names work?

When we enter a domain name, the computer will sends a request to a bunch of servers that make up the DNS(Domain Name System). The DNS will look up the correct IP address and will point your computer to the correct website in less than a millisecond.
